About this artwork
Forged from thousands of stainless steel plates, this towering equine head rises against a sky heavy with rolling storm clouds, the kind of Scottish weather that makes monuments like this feel almost mythic. The horse's ear is pinned back, nostril flared, as if caught mid-breath between two great companions standing watch over the canal below.
The scale is staggering in person, thirty meters of gleaming metal built from a mosaic of individual panels, each one catching the light differently depending on the hour and the weather. Here, the dark, bruised clouds behind it only heighten the contrast: the sculpture almost glows, luminous and defiant against the storm.
A tribute to the working horses of Scotland's waterways, cast in a form built to outlast them all.
